Very light material but very warm. I've been out with him in the rain for quite a while and haven't gotten wet inside yet. I actually got caught unexpectedly in a snow storm while fishing and used this in my rain hat and it kept my head and ears toasty (I turned the bills down). For me, the hat is worn all over my head with my ears down. I look weird in it, but the main thing here is warmth, not a fashion show. Very flexible and foldable so you can put it in your pocket without too much ill effect. Overall a good purchase and I would buy it again.
