Not quite as good as Battery Tender Jr

These chargers are just as good as Battery Tender Jr but cheaper. After two of my Battery Tender Jr chargers suddenly stopped working, I decided to give this a try. My supervisors are connected via an ammeter/voltmeter so I can check what they are doing. The two main differences I see compared to the BT Jr are: [1] The operating voltage of the BT Jr is 13.1V; The voltage of this charger is 13.5V, which is within the normal service interval of 13.1-13.9V.[2] Maintenance current is typically 200mA per BT Jr; This charger pulses between 0mA and 100mA. This pulsing action is good as it prevents electrolyte separation. At least a third the cost of BT Jr., no problem. I've just ordered three more pairs (yes, there are two chargers in each pack!) Follow-up review: These chargers disable the built-in overheat protection circuitry when prompted to deliver maximum current for an hour. So if you have a battery that is already almost fully charged, these chargers are suitable for service mode. The problem is that there are no ventilation holes in the small case. The PCB gets very hot at 1.5A applied and there is nowhere for that heat to go.

Pros
  • Wide compatibility
Cons
  • Some difficulties
