Review on ๐Ÿšด Brooks Saddles Flyer Bicycle Saddle (Men's): Premium Comfort for Cyclists by Marcus Munoz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Over two years and 3,000 miles later.

This saddle was excellent! With over 3,000 miles on the road commuting and commuting, Brooks is still as comfortable as ever! It's been through all four seasons and has been in the rain a few times but the light application of the protective coating I bought with the saddle over two years ago helps keep it looking good! On first use, the saddle felt like solid steel. The leather was very hard (sounded like tapping on hard plastic). After a few miles of riding I felt it, especially in my sit bones. However, I chose the saddle after reading many reviews stating that Brooks saddles are initially stiff and a bit uncomfortable but start to roll in and adapt to the rider adding many years of comfort and use. I'm very glad I did this. Three thousand miles is probably not much for the cycling community as far as road biking goes, but I commute over very rough terrain, gravel roads, railroad tracks, lots of construction and debris on a heavy bike that carries a lot of weight. Time, both on the bike rack and in the backpack all year round. I don't have lycra or cycling shorts, they're either regular pants or old summer shorts. It's hard to see the photo, but there were prints on my saddle where the ischial bones met. Every time I jump in the saddle my butt seems to "slip" into that sweet spot and I'm ready to go, no readjustment so I'm slipping. I considered lowering the angle even further because it looks like the subject is facing up, but ultimately decided against it. It works. Long rides, short rides, slick trails on Michigan's very rough roads with dead tires and warped rims. This saddle takes the edge off a bit. Never have back or back pain. This saddle has helped me lose almost 100 pounds. I bought this saddle shortly after purchasing the Salsa Vaya in 2013 when I was 273 pounds. Now I've lost to 178 pounds. This is a testament to the Brooks Flyer's durability. One thing to note, when I put on a very light layer of the sample (btw I keep the sample in the freezer to extend shelf life) I put on some old black shorts to sand the saddle and remove the black residue . After that, I casually wear khakis and other light clothing. The 40g can I bought with the saddle two years ago seemed a bit expensive to me but I think it is very important because it protects the saddle and I probably only used about 10% of it. If I had to list a few downsides it would be a squeak that comes and goes. It's not loud or annoying, but it's there. I am seriously considering getting a second flyer to have on hand if production is stopped or there is a change in build quality.
