Review on 🍨 SUMO Stainless Steel Ice Cream Scoop - Ergonomic Handle, Sturdy Scooper, Dishwasher Safe (Blue) by Katrina Scott

Revainrating 5 out of 5

WOW! Finally there is an ice cream scoop that keeps what it promises!

Our old ice cream spoon (which we've had for about 6 years looks similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DVFET9S/ref=s9_dcacsd_bhz_bw_c_x_1) broke recently the handle came off cleanly from the neck/cup section and I was looking for a replacement. Our freezer tends to keep ice cream completely frozen, making it difficult to scoop it out. I've had several different scoops in the past, some of which worked better than others, so my criteria for this search were: 1. Easy to clean, preferably dishwasher safe.2. Solid stainless steel bowl that will not lose holes or coating.3. Good comfortable grip.4. Ability to easily cut hard ice.5. Good size spoons for serving in bowls and sugar cones.6. Easy release of ice cream (virtually non-stick).7. Durable.8. Inexpensive.9. High satisfaction reviews on Revain and other websites (particularly those written by reviewers who did not receive a discounted item in exchange for a review). I started looking at different styles and functions: trigger/lever release mechanisms; antifreeze to the touch; peak style; from a single piece of metal; comfortable handles; stainless steel bowls (both round and oval); with non-stick coating, etc. After reading many reviews (both pros and cons) for different styles and comparing them to America's Test Kitchen ice cream scoop test results, I decided to purchase a SUMO ice cream scoop. happy with my decision! I'm a big fan of the OXO Good Grips, but after reading a number of reviews of the OXO model, it turned out that there were some issues with the bowl rusting or pitting over time. Because the SUMO shovel has a lifetime warranty, I chose it over the OXO shovel (it was cheaper at the time of purchase). After purchasing the SUMO shovel, I read that OXO supports their products as well, but I am happy with my purchase. As other reviewers have mentioned, the shovel arrives nicely packaged in a box. Only purple was available at the time of purchase. (I'm not a huge fan of purple, but heck, it's an ice cream scoop, so color wasn't a factor. And it's a darker purple, not pastel lilac, so it's fine.) It's a good weight. him - solid, but not too heavy. I pulled a new box of ice cream (Friendly's Black Raspberry) out of the freezer and tested the hardness with an 18/10 stainless steel soup spoon - it was quite difficult to get my spoon to scoop due to the hardness of the ice cream. Then I tried the SUMO shovel. SUMO claims her spoon "slides over frozen dessert like butter." God this is one day - it absolutely cuts through tough ice cream and makes it easy to serve! I was blown away at how easy it was to pick up the ice cream and how easily it fell into both the sugar cones and bowls! After multiple uses (and a few rinses in the dishwasher), I'm still thrilled with my SUMO spoon. It ticks all of my boxes, if not some! The pointed tip (which wasn't one of my original criteria) makes it easy to get into the corners of rectangular ice cream boxes so the ice doesn't go to waste. And because the shovel is a single piece of stainless steel, rather than a shovel with a separate neck and handle welded together, I don't have to worry about this shovel breaking like my previous one did. My husband, 10 year old son and I can use this shovel with ease and the handle is comfortable for all of us. I highly recommend this shovel! I bought this shovel at full price. I did not receive a discount or an incentive to leave a product review. I am happy with this spoon - and would buy it again at full price!
