A bit small but a good container for cheese.

First of all, I had no idea that storing cheese is so difficult. I'm trying to use less plastic bags so I was looking for a good way to store cheese. I don't buy fancy cheese at all, just regular pieces of cheddar from the grocery store. I cut blocks for a handy snack and need a container to store them. I've tried different types, all with their own pitfalls. Plastic bags are wasteful and the cheese tends to go stale. I tried a jar of Rubbermaid Brilliance (they are amazing) but the moisture built up and the cheese got moldy. So I did a little research and came across these containers. I bought two - a white one for my sharp white cheddar and a yellow one for my sharp yellow cheddar. I know, smart, right? These containers are a bit small, but a 16oz/1lb block of cheese fits perfectly. The lids fit snugly but don't close, which is important when storing cheese (as I found out recently). These containers are easy to clean and compact enough to fit in a fruit drawer or on door shelves. So far I haven't had any mold problems and the semi-hard cheese hasn't dried out either. It's quite expensive, especially if you don't like fancy cheese. But they seem to help keep sliced cheese fresh for longer. BTW they do what I bought them for - I just find them a bit overpriced. That being said, depending on your circumstances, this is a pretty good article.

Pros
  • Reusable silicone sleeve reduces plastic waste; Mark the end of the container with a ballpoint pen to clearly mark the contents and the date
Cons
  • Long time
