I recently bought a new computer monitor with an audio-out jack. This allows me to switch between my computer via a DisplayPort connection and my other devices via HDMI without having to switch between different speakers (since any sound going to the monitor is sent through the audio out). Because of this, I was looking for a set of small speakers that would fit under the monitor but wouldn't require a separate power cord to mess things up even more. I found a couple of speakers that seemed like what I was looking for, but then I realized they didn't have a separate volume control. A separate volume control is critical to my use because while my computers allow volume control within the operating system, a standard HDMI device (like a cable box, gaming system, etc.) doesn't, and I needed a way to do that Volume control also for these devices. These speakers are for you! They're quite small (although they don't fit completely under the monitor, they still fit my purpose even if they're slightly blocked, see image), they sound great and best of all they easily plug into a USB port Power supplies can be plugged into the back to power the monitor - no bulky power supply and no wiring required! The installation is very easy. Simply set up the right speaker and connect the USB port to any powered USB port on your monitor or computer, plug a standard audio cable into the audio out port on your monitor or computer, and then connect the left speaker to the right speaker (the cable is built into the left speaker). On the bottom of the right speaker is a rubberized rotary switch that controls the volume. The dial is a little quirky as you have to apply a little pressure to it for the rubber to hook onto your finger and really start spinning. I would have preferred if it was just a regular hard plastic dial, but rubberized is no big deal. As mentioned, the volume doesn't get too loud if you want to rock the whole house, but I definitely found it to be louder than my laptop can output on its own and loud enough for everyday use. No complaints from me about the volume as I think anything louder would get in trouble with my neighbours! I'm glad I tried these speakers! They are very cheap and fully meet my needs!
