Good Products for Cleaning and Deodorizing Carpets

I received a rug from a friend who was replacing her rug and she knew I wanted to buy it but didn't want to spend a lot of money. Dogs, so I made a good vacuum and deodorant so my cats and dog wouldn't feel the need to change the smell to their own. We have had him for a long time, more than a year, since then we have taken another dog into the house. I also have two teenagers and the room that the rugs live in is the dining room...lots of movement, lots of spills and stains. We are in the process of slowly renovating the rooms so we removed everything from the room except the carpet, oh my god we could smell that carpet! Nothing worked, carpet deodorant, cleaner, fabric spray... have you ever smelled a person you know didn't wash and only used febreze and perfume on themselves just to smell like fashion junk? That was my rug. Found it after a bit of an argument about whether to clean the carpet or throw it out, which I don't plan to do until we've completed the renovation and moved out. This product popped up a few times, I watched the videos and read the reviews and then I bought the kit. I used it last night and while I wasn't expecting it to remove all stains or make an old carpet look brand new, I was hoping it would at least get rid of the smell. And it seems to have worked. It also lightened the overall color of the carpet but didn't remove the stains. To be fair I haven't done more than one treatment so maybe there would be a more noticeable difference if I did. I'm happy with the results, it did what I needed and maybe if I feel like it I'll go back to the stained areas to see if it lightens them up. Before I started I vacuumed the carpet thoroughly, sprayed it with a pre-spray and then worked in small areas. powder application and then carpet treatment; Note: the brush that came with it didn't fit any of the threaded grips I had, so I used a stiff brush. I waited over an hour before vacuuming the cure, the humidity in my area was high so I wanted to make sure everything was nice and dry. My vacuum is a bissel canister vacuum and it worked fine but you could see it struggled a bit with fine powder. I went through the carpet twice and I liked the result. The weird garbage smell is gone! The carpet lives freely for some time. I'll be using this on the carpeted staircase and see if it gets rid of stale smoke and pet smells - previous owners smoked like chimneys - if all goes well I might buy more for the upstairs hallways and bedrooms!
