I bought this for my 5 gallon and 6.5 gallon aquariums after being disappointed with another gravel cleaner I bought at my local pet store. I bought the smallest hose and it still took on too much water too quickly and also sucked up all my sand leaving food, poop and trash behind. Serious. It was POS. I'm not exactly a novice either. A few years ago my husband and I had a 90 gallon reef tank and we are now building a 120 gallon reef tank so I know how these things work and how to use them. But anyone who knows anything about aquariums knows that small aquariums are pita, and who am I kidding when I decided to jump into freshwater nano/pico aquariums!? Pooh! However, this little device saved some of my sanity! It vacuums the bottom of my aquariums so well, sucking up all the dirt my fish leave behind and leaving all my sand untouched. I can suck it up gently, or I can swirl the water and sand and just suck up anything that flies into the water. The tube can be a little tricky putting some of the pieces and pieces together, but other than that this thing is very easy to use. I love it!
