If you need to fill your online store with high-quality product photos and, at the same time, there is no need to print large photos in a catalog or in a magazine, then this is your choice 100%! The use of this lens on a crop gives its advantages: 1) the depth of field, other things being equal, is greater than in the full frame of the 5DM3 + 100 f / 2.8L kit, this allows you not to clamp the aperture too much and not lose it in microcontrast when shooting macro objects; 2) the size of the RAW file is two times smaller than that of Mark 2 and 3, when you have about 1-2 thousand photos, this is not particularly noticeable, and when 400-600 thousand, then the number of archive disks grows by leaps and bounds ; 3) the lens itself is not very large and not heavy, which, together with the camera, gives more operational space and mobility in front of the object table. A hood is a must! And it's best to use not native, but ET-67 from Caonn 100 f / 2.8 macro USM. The native lens hood ET-67B is smaller in size and the optics often catch stray light from light sources, the frame deteriorates. Paired with the Canon 40D, this lens made it possible to shoot and fill more than one virtual showcase of our 2022 market. The best option for a small business in terms of price / quality ratio simply does not exist. I recommend to everyone who decides to do subject photography for the Web on their own, in order to fill their online store with photos, to take this particular lens, and not 100 f / 2.8. if you decide to take it in stores with a very suspiciously low price, then it’s better to find a used one in the secondary market and not risk it, otherwise you may run into a frank wiring or marriage and you will be sold used as new.
