The light from this fixture itself is good, but it's not a recessed light and you get a lot of glare. A good way to use can lights is to place short-necked PAR30 lights, where the bulb is set two inches into the ceiling and isn't visible until you're almost below it (and you're not usually looking straight up , so you can't actually see it). This is a beautiful lighting effect, especially when using black or highly polished kits. However, the bulb in this product is placed directly on the ceiling surface, and the bright light is striking, as if you are using a long neck PAR30. Even if you tilt them, you still get a lot of reflections from inside the case. This contrasts with the eyeball-style hanging trim, which manages to hide the lamp's glare when you tilt it far from the center. So if you don't care about glare this product is a great choice and you get a much wider spread of light than recessed lights. If you care about glare, you'll probably be happier with an eyeball trim kit like this, Lithonia Lighting 7E1 TOR R6 6" Standard Recessed Full Reflector Eyeball Light Trim, White, which costs about $25, and another $12 for the LED Bulb.
