Review on Bucktool BD4801: Power Your Projects With A Bench Belt And Disc Sander by Sean Young

Best unit for the money!

I've owned a few of these things, and this one has the best power and most solid construction. The aluminum tables aren't any better than others at this price point, but it's very easy to improve on those. This one includes the steel stop bar to replace the table on the belt side, which is better if you prefer to use it in the horizontal position. With a small machinist's square, you can fiddle with the table on the disc side to get it square to the platen. I just leave it squared up (90 degrees) to the disc, since there are better ways to sand at an angle than moving the table. You can just cut a piece of scrapwood at the desired angle, clamp it to the table and use it for a guide, for example. The 8" PSA sanding discs and 4x36 belts for this are very affordable. At the price of these units, I'll keep 80 grit disc/belt on this one, and set the second one up with around 120, 150 or 180 grit disc/belt. Anything finer, I can hand sand.

Pros
  • Provides a professional finish on a range of materials
Cons
  • The machine can be quite finicky to set up correctly, which might be a hassle for some users
