Review on 🛹 Cal 7 Standard Skateboard Complete Deck - 7.5-8-Inch by Vince Preston

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good for beginners but doesn't hold the band well. ABEC 5 bearings

Is this a decent board for beginners? Yes, the deck is solid, the axle hubs are a little soft for my liking, but they are positioned so the wheels don't bind. This means that there are spacers under the metal bogies (wheel mounts) to keep the distance between the board and the wheels while riding. This prevents the wheels from hitting the deck when tilting and/or turning. Meaning? Good quality wheel, 7-ply deck, delivered assembled. The board I received had bad tape as can be seen in the attached photos. Does it change the way you drive? When you're trying to get into position and you can't rotate your legs because you hit the ledge on the left side of the grip. Strength? States 7 ply maple, I didn't count the ply because it could be 7 but also could be the thinnest ply maple money can buy and be rubbish. All in all - I bought this for my son as his first new board, he is 11 and was super excited to take it to the point where his first ride was in the dark in our driveway when I got home from work . I double checked the kingpin carriages and wheels to make sure everything was fine. I know there is no stock rating in the description of this board. This came with ABEC 5 bearings. Brand unknown, definitely steel not ceramic. Didn't expect it. It gets a bit tighter for a heavier person, my son is a decent size and the board is good for him, he already weighs 110. The rating for this rig says it hits 210 or so but anything over 150 seems to be over the summit. exactly with this attitude. At least for a newbie. Some have complained about peeling graphics, I wouldn't call it a demo board and it's definitely not a cruiser. It's meant to be used in skate parks and for practice, ollie and essentially learning to become a better skateboarder. With that in mind, most skaters know that if you see the same kid or skater in the park with perfect graphics, they're new to figure skating. A board like this is designed to be chopped to allow skid marks to grind grooves in graphics and trucks. For the money, it's definitely worth it for a beginner figure skater. Better than big boxes. As for the layer - there are decks that say 7, 9 or even 12 layers, it doesn't matter much if there is no quality behind the layer and the board. I say that because I built my own board when my son was old when my big boxboard broke as a kid. We couldn't get another one, but we did have an old piece of Georgia pine plywood. I borrowed a handsaw from my father and cut the shape of an ice cream stick out of plywood, soaked it in water for a couple of days to bend the tail and dried it in the sun. He was big and bulky, but he was mine. This setup took me over five years to afford a new maple blank. When I could get a regular deck, it felt so light and flimsy that I thought I'd break it every time I climbed into it. It wasn't a bad deck, I was just used to a heavy 1/4 plywood board. For comparison, we had five-ply Georgia pine plywood that we bought at a hardware store.
