We have used them in the pool and lake a number of times since purchase. We use them in combination with an ear patch so I'm not sure how they work on their own. They hold up much better than previous ear tips we've used, which didn't have extra contour around the part that goes into the ear canal. They stay in place much better and we haven't had any issues with them popping out and popping back in when swimming and diving. My son is on his 4th set of tubes and has a history of frequent ear infections after getting water in his ears. So far no ear infections after using these earplugs! Highly recommended.
