We experienced numerous lightning strikes on the phone line leading to our building. The latest impact damaged a DSL modem, two switches, a router, a computer video card, a security recorder, a surveillance camera and a projector input port. What all devices have in common is that they are networked and connected to a DSL modem. We also have surge protection for all devices. We are awaiting a response from the telephone company regarding the grounding and connection of the telephone line at the entrance to the building (proper connection and grounding are doubtful at this time). To try to isolate the DSL modem from the rest of our network, I added a converted media that is the only device connected to the DSL modem. The second media converter is connected to a switch that is connected to the rest of our network. Let's hope that our internal network is now isolated from the DSL modem by an optical connection between the two media converters. The media converters work great but I guess we'll have to wait for the next lightning strike to see if that fixes the problem.
