Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far, so good. I restored/reinforced opti before installation. Please read

My original Opti (1997 Camaro Z28) ran 128,000 miles before it finally failed. After warming up for a minute or two, the car started to stumble and eventually died with me. I was able to restart the engine, but the more times I did it, the more likely it would die again. That would have failed and at one point even had the opposite effect. Those were my symptoms and this look solved them. This opti looks like a good quality build. I did not use the new cable that came with this optic as I had no reason to believe mine was bad. (My car is a summer day car, never seen salt) Take a look at your existing cable and you make a choice, your call. Even the original GM optis are now restored and get no better reviews than this opti, so I decided to give this one a try. It's EASY to make this opti stronger to prevent the parts inside from vibrating over time. (common source of many failures). For a decent explanation, go to YouTube and search "Inside the LT1 Optispark". This is not my video but it explains the disassembly details. I didn't flash the lid (as mentioned in the video) because the print seems to be of good quality. Instead, I recommend loosening the four outer Torx screws on the outer cover and, inside the Opti, unscrewing the two rotor screws and the two optical sensor screws. Apply a small amount of blue thread lock to each thread (all) and reassemble the Opti. That's all. It's easy, and removing the opti from the LT1 is such a hassle that you don't want to do it again if you don't have to. You will need: An E4 socket (external torx socket) to remove the cap. like this: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000CO88JY/?coliid=I2RPF8GLJSH4RH&colid=2LAI4ZWX9M9KB&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it You will also need a standard torx bit for the rotor (I don't know what size it is, but it is small. Buy this kit: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00MUJU33S/?coliid=I1UNLCDRNU20M4&colid=2LAI4ZWX9M9KB&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it don't remember what set of screws the optical pickup had. Maybe regular torx. Also blue Loctite for the screws: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0002UEMZ2/?coliid=I1CA5KA0TQPMII&colid=2LAI4ZWX9M9KB&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Have a good trip.
