OMG a lot of people must have returned this monitor thinking it had terrible brightness. I almost did. You need to turn off the "Eco Sensor Mode" hidden at the bottom of the "System" menu. Samsung really shot itself in the foot with this. Out of the box, the panel looks flawedly dark even at a brightness setting of 100. After switching off this setting, 80% brightness seems sufficient to me.
