Microscope for home schooling

We homeschool boys in grades 6-8. They can be rough so I didn't want a plastic toy and I wanted a lot of zoom to see what we can see. This microscope did not disappoint. Knowing that many, if not all, of the smaller microscopes on the market have plastic "lenses," I liked the "glass optical lenses" on this scope. The images are sharp and clear. The light is powered by either batteries (3pcs/AAA) or an AC outlet and there is a well-placed, easy-to-use switch at the base. You can take this thing on a tour if you want, although I can't see why you would want to. The frame/body is all metal as stated. The bottom cover is plastic, but that doesn't matter. This device is made in China and I don't agree one iota with the price tag of $450. But it costs $90 + shipping, which can be avoided if you want to take advantage of the Revain offer. But I bought a scope and a ready-made box for Amscope 50 PC slides, and all in all my supply only cost about $4. I don't know which ones you will have. The scope comes with a transformer and 2 WF finders, although I haven't figured out how to fit a second one yet. It is different from what was installed. One person reported that their scope was poorly packaged. Not mine. The instrument was packed in a thick Styrofoam box, in a cardboard box, packed in another box along with additional prepared slides I had purchased in a padded container with additional seats filled with large bubble bags. It arrived in perfect condition and everything was tight. Coming back to the fact that I don't know how to assemble this second viewfinder, the "instructions" (I can hardly call them that) are far from useless, as another reviewer reports. That's why I only gave this place 4 stars. Consider the tool itself 5/stars. But if I used a microscope at school, which I most likely did, it was so long ago that I can't remember. So the lack of instructions exacerbates it a bit. I decided not to spend money on a book about it, believing (correctly, as it turned out) that there is a lot of free information available on the internet. But buyers of this volume have to be willing to do a thing or two. And the last word. While researching the web I found that the 1000x magnification might require immersion oil. However, note that this does not work with all lenses and is not a yes or no with this scope. The papers have a toll free number, so I called them. I am happy to report that there was no recording and a real live person answered the call. (8^o I got my reply quickly, Oil can be used if needed. Service. We end here. I tried to make it useful, not just a superficial praise or complaint. I hope it is useful to someone .

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Hard to say
