It is very durable and well made

I gave this to my grandson as a Christmas present. He was very excited. It looks solid and should hold up to a 10 year old hopefully for years to come. His teacher recommended it to us. I wish it had slides but we cut out some glass for him to use right away.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Only available in white

We returned this because it had two main issues. The lamp is not adjustable and too bright. Maybe we can deal with it, but the non-working lenses of the lens violated the terms of the contract. Two just didn't work and that's it, and the lowest performance was washed out in minute detail. I initially assumed that there must be some sort of protective film for shipping, but that's not the case.

This is normal for basic research, however.

I bought this a few years ago to study basic biology and still haven't realized that the 25x magnification doesn't work with this microscope. The 10x eyepiece screws on and off while the 25x eyepiece does not fit. It doesn't screw or slip, so unless I'm doing something wrong, I think this eyepiece is not suitable for this microscope. You can unscrew 10x and stick 25x over the body tube, but it's not possible to secure it in place. Disappointing.

Pros
  • Simple design
Cons
  • A few little things

I love it. for compound monocular microscopes

First complaints. Neither of them is a deal breaker. Just something to look out for when deciding on a higher price range microscope. There are two handles, but they move together. In science class I had a coarse zoom and a fine zoom. This microscope does not have precise magnification. It's not as sharp as more expensive microscopes. Still pretty clear. Switching between 10x and 25x eyepieces is painful. This is my first desktop microscope (as opposed to a pocket microscope) and I'm actually…

The perfect microscope for the whole family!

If you are new to microscopy or want to introduce your kids to the microscopic world, this is a great microscope! I decided to buy it instead of the "kids microscope" fearing the kids microscopes would disappoint. So glad I did! It definitely meets my expectations for magnification (40x-1000x), well made and solid. It was a reasonable price ($85). Remember that this is a microscope only, you need to buy slides and coverslips separately. I've uploaded some photos of the paper towel and wasp bits

Our daughter will use it for years!

I never write reviews but we bought this for our 6 year old daughter for Christmas hoping we could spark her interest in science. I have to say it's a good weight, very stable and very well made! My husband and I were amazed at the quality of the microscope's materials and how smoothly it worked. We took it out of the box and "tested" it upon arrival by swabbing our dogs' ear mucus, our own saliva, hair follicles and plants we have around the house. We found that our dog's ears were just dirty…

Live Louse in 40s and 100s

This is a louse found on my daughter's head. All the lice are already dead and my daughter is fine! This video was filmed by holding a video camera to the eyepiece of our AmScope M100C LED model, so the actual image isn't as tunneled through your eye. We put the louse on the prepared foil, this is the pink stuff in the first part of the video. He was lying on his back so you can see his legs moving. The first nine seconds of this video is at 40x and the rest is at 100x. We also looked at the…

Microscope for home schooling

We homeschool boys in grades 6-8. They can be rough so I didn't want a plastic toy and I wanted a lot of zoom to see what we can see. This microscope did not disappoint. Knowing that many, if not all, of the smaller microscopes on the market have plastic "lenses," I liked the "glass optical lenses" on this scope. The images are sharp and clear. The light is powered by either batteries (3pcs/AAA) or an AC outlet and there is a well-placed, easy-to-use switch at the base. You can take this thing…
