Works as advertised.

There are several 8mm digital scanners on the market and it was a good price. I have to run thousands of meters and so far this has worked pretty well. The quality of digital video largely depends on the quality of the old film. There are adjustments for exposure and framing. On some standard 8mm film, a scan line enters the field of view between frames. You have to stop it, go to the menu and change the frame, you can see it when you adjust it. If the exposure looks too dark or too light, you can also change it in the menu, but the film won't do it, and it's a matter of trial and error. Once you stop and restart the movie, a new file will be created on the SD card. I'm using a 16MB SCAN card, but it works with 32MB. I didn't expect more for the price. Ideally, it would be nice to run a movie like a projector at normal speed, but that's not the case. It scans at 2 frames per second and a 50ft spool takes about 30 minutes. You have to spin the reels to rewind, but fast forward is pretty slow. After scanning, you can connect it to a monitor or TV and view the MPG file. The device is supplied with the appropriate cables. When watching old digitized films from an SD card, the speed can seem too fast, especially black and white films from 70 years ago. YouTube video player may adjust speed more slowly. What's really nice is that if you upload it to YouTube from your computer, the whole family can see it, and it gave some family members a real family feel even before some of them were born. I have several cousins who were born after their grandparents died and for the first time they saw them in motion, not in a picture. They also see their great-grandparents as they have never been seen before. Converting old movies is worth it. This machine will do what you want, not quite professional results but still very good.
