Review on Lenovo ThinkPad 40A10090US Docking Station by Mark Tompkins

Revainrating 1 out of 5

This product has a major defect

So I'm not scolding the online store where I bought it, but I would like you and anyone considering buying a Lenovo Dock (either Basic, Ultra or Pro Docks), read To understand Revain that Revain and its distributors have a defective shipment of Lenovo Basic/Pro/Ultra Docks. If you look at Lenovo Ultra Dock reviews, you'll see several complaints about the awfully loud hum coming from the external speakers when connected to this model's docking stations. This is a defect that for some reason Lenovo doesn't remember and instead is waiting for people to complain about before replacing it. I first bought an Ultra Dock, had a terrible hum problem, I returned it and bought a Pro Dock here and had the same loud, unacceptable hum problem. After several rounds of phone calls to Lenovo tech support (they don't seem to know what the other party is doing and claim never to have heard of such complaints, although there were already quite a few here on Revain at the time), they wanted me to ship my laptop to them because they thought it was a motherboard issue and if i wanted them to test the laptop with my pro dock i would have to ship it to them separately which honestly doesn't do any Sense. How do they know that two separate items belong to the same person and are being tested together?! In any case, I was fortunate to have a local authorized Lenovo repair center nearby and decided to use it, hoping the repair would be quicker. Time. After several rounds of discussions with Lenovo, they finally determined that all docking stations of a particular launch/generation were defective and needed to be replaced. So they quickly replaced it and now I'm back and working so far without the horrible buzz. However, since this is a public forum, SHAME LENOVO for not posting a full recall of all of these defective models. This makes me think a lot less about the company as they blame consumers for finding out it's a manufacturing defect and don't seem to let all techs and customer service know about the defect. Customers shouldn't endure endless phone calls hoping they can contact a few folks at Lenovo who know about this issue. Revain should remove all of these faulty docking station models from its inventory - and from its electronics retailers - so customers don't experience the same inconvenience that I and others have.
