I bought this product because my laptop broke 3 years ago. After digging deep into the laptop, I found that the motherboard had given up. So I bought a new laptop but I was wondering what to do with the good parts of the old laptop. I took out the hard drive and bought an external USB 2.0 SATA enclosure for it, I took out the RAM and sold it to a friend, but I was wondering what to do with the DVD-RW SATA writer? I found this Slim CD-RW/DVD-RW SATA USB 2.0 Burning Enclosure for Laptop. For only $13 including shipping, you can't go wrong. Burning a USB DVD-RW on Revain costs between $20 and $30, so that was the way to go. Installation is pretty easy: just open the case, attach the controller chip to the burner, latch the controller chip and burner to the bottom of the case, snap the top in place, and tighten the two screws. bottom of the case and you're good to go. In Windows XP and Windows 7 it is recognized immediately without additional drivers. Has two power supplies in case one is not enough. It works great with my CD-RW/DVD-RW burner. The only downside I've found is that the body itself is slightly larger than the burner, but that's no reason not to give it 5 stars. I think this is a great solution for older laptops that burn CD-RW/DVD-RW.
