Instead of a floating thermometer that kept falling off the suction cup and the old digital device with a cable going into the tank and a tiny dark screen, this big Tempo display tells me at first glance View. I've been comparing it to these other two devices for a few months and it seems accurate. My battery lasted 6 months. It's a CR2032, a thin quarter-size battery. See photos. The lid is held in place by two tabs in the top edge of the lid. To replace the battery, pry up the battery cover along the seam on the bottom of the case. Be prepared to catch the battery because mine fell to the ground when I finally figured out how to open it. Replace the battery with the positive side out. Then put the top edge of the lid back into the case and close the bottom edge. I also had to slide the cover up to close the gap at the top edge of the battery cover where the tabs are. You need to reset the minimum/maximum temperature settings. If the temperature is outside of this range, the screen should flash, although thankfully I've never tested this feature.
