I have a 100 gallon acrylic tank and this unit works well with little temperature loss due to the acrylic. he reads about two degrees below. Knowing this, it's easy to add two degrees to the reading. A suggested improvement would be to add an offset setting to allow the unit to be calibrated in the field using the environment it is in and the tank material and thickness.

Setting the high and low alarm levels is a painful and not very easy task. Even then, trying to change it is a PAIN. Right now as I posted it the reading is only 2 degrees above the actual water temperature. I tested this with a knot thermometer and a regular thermometer. Still useful, but you just have to keep in mind that it's turned off. I haven't moved it which means the tacky adhesive isn't dangling. But maybe it will give me more accuracy in the future.

EDIT TO ADD: The thermometer has worked great for ONLY ONE WEEK. It then changed from F to C *frequently* over the course of two weeks and had to be reset DAILY. I feel sorry for my rooster, apparently the small oval thermometer I used with the probe wasn't accurate. So when I had a low temperature, I raised the temperature on the heater. One time when I was changing the water it felt like it was too warm and when I used another thermometer to check the temperature of the water in the sink when changing the water it was about 7 or 8 degrees warmer.
