After using this mat only once, just to trim the finished blanket for tying, deep cuts can be seen on the purple side of the mat. I haven't tried the black side, why? While I liked the color and the idea that it was eco-friendly, I know the slots will get in the way of smooth rotary cutting over time, so I returned it for a refund. I will buy Olfa's green rug in the same size which I know will last.
