I have a live rock fish tank and I replaced those crappy salinity floats with a $40 refractometer. We bought it a few months later, everything measured fine, but then calibration problems started and the test results were a little different. The measurements should be for the money I had in mind but I couldn't get them anymore. I got angry and frustrated so I bought a HANNA salinity tester. Big waste of time and money. I received the device and the next morning I ran a number of different tests on the device. I've followed the instructions closely over and over again and even tried to change the way I tested. I zeroed the instrument, used different test samples, used the same test samples, all brand new, rinsed syringes, used distilled water, rinsed the test well on the instrument, and even used certified test fluid. After testing all of these variables in different ways for over half an hour, would you think I would have at least one test value that was the same? All test results were different and I don't mean just a number. I had readings from 24ppt, up 30, up 31, up 32, 33, 35, 40.41 and so on. Not impressed at all. Packed quickly and sent the device back to Amazon. I have 2 Apex Jr. Multiple probes working, huge backup power plant with 4 deep cycle batteries, aqua lit LED units, 6ft long tank in my basement that runs over the wall into my swamp. And I still haven't found a device that can correctly and stably measure the salinity in my system. lol lol Do not buy this device. I give 0 stars, not 1 star. Anyone who gives 5 stars should carry out several tests in a row in the same way and then write me a message that only my device was defective or that I carried out my tests in this way. I've got thousands and thousands of dollars tied up in this sea tank. I'm proud of this and I just need an easy way to measure salinity. A high-precision refractometer to be used by NASA is now being sought. lol I never write reviews on Amazon purchases, but I do buy a lot of things. Do not buy this device. Write me at 519-919-3833. I'm from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Have a nice day everyone.
