Review on πŸšͺ M-D Building Products 78634: Adjustable Aluminum & Hardwood Sill Inswing - 36-Inch TH394, Bronze – High-quality, Flexible Door Sill Solution by Jimmy Koroye

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Complicated assembly. Moderate quality issues.

I bought three of these sills to replace the factory sills on some Jeld-Wen doors that needed to be reinstalled (removing the doors damaged the originals). I found the following: Pros: ++ I got them working. + My carbide tipped miter saw easily cut them to the desired 36 inch size. Out of the box they were 1/8 inch larger than this one. + The aluminum components felt solid and were well bonded to the wooden base. Cons: --- [THIS IS PART OF TLDR!] The "washers" used to hold the adjustable sill must be pressed into the provided screws or the sill will just fall off again. I did this with a hammer and a piece of tubing .over the threaded part of the bolt as instructed in the instructions with no mechanical force These really should have been pre fitted with an adjustable oak part --- Very poor instructions (see above) If you look closely follow the guide Without extrapolation, the threshold doesn't work (it just goes to the lowest position and doesn't stay up). ).Had to disassemble the factory sill to figure out how it works. The other components weren't fully aligned (the fairing was sticking out over the aluminum sticking out over the wood base, etc.). - The front panel is very loosely stitched and may come off and will need to be reattached. - MD also makes a 2" extension so they will work with a 2x6 wall. The extensions seem to work. They tend to spring back after installation as the aluminum bottom retaining lip is tiny. Skin: - Pieces of oak chip easily. While this is expected for a piece of wood, it's not really a scam. This may be a reason to consider a vinyl or composite sleeper instead.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
