Review on (Old Model) Toshiba Canvio Connect 1TB Portable Hard Drive by William Stewart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Died a year later, trouble returns.

Well everything worked fine for the first year of the two year warranty. Today it started clicking and we all know what that means. I tried to find a way to replace it on Toshiba's website but found that you can't even register the external hard drive. Entering a serial or model number just returns an error and it takes a while to realize you can only register big things like TVs and computers. I had to photograph the serial number sticker on the back and upload it along with a printout of my Amazon order as proof of purchase. I really hope the rest of the process is easier. UPDATE: I noticed that some of the reviews here were answered by a Toshiba rep who directed people to an "acknowledgment" website. I went there and found out they will not directly replace the item. Instead I have to send it back and they send me a nice voucher to ToshibaDirect where I can buy a new one. Lets see what happens. I paid $57 when I bought the Revain CD. They give me a $99 coupon. This should cover purchase, shipping and handling, according to a live chat spokesperson. Just take a look. UPDATE: After returning a dead drive for $3.18, I received an email with a $99 coupon code on Toshiba's website. I was able to buy a 2TB hard drive for a good price. After shipping for $9.99 I had to pay $2.60 so I got a 2TB drive for a total of $5.78 to replace this drive with a 500GB drive. I'm happy with the deal.
