Poisonous smell! in seat covers

I wanted to like it but the smell upon unpacking is so toxic and overwhelming that I don't know how to put it in my car. I have washed it in the washing machine and hung it to dry but the smell is still bad and overpowering. I sprayed it with a spray meant to get rid of the odor and so far it hasn't helped. I drive Lyft and bought it specifically so if I have a driver with a service dog I can easily put him in the back seat before loading to keep my car clean for other passengers if dirty paws are involved. One of the reviews I often get is how good my car smells. Given how toxic my tiny bathroom smells right now just because I hung this over the shower curtain to dry, I don't know how I'm going to carry it around in my car because it's bound to smell just as toxic. This is neither good for me nor for my passengers and certainly not something I would want animals to do. The problem is the non-slip backing, and it's very similar to some rugs I've seen. I've bought one before and it didn't smell bad. It's a shame because I bought it specifically for the design and easy on and off, and the front is great, but if it exposes you to an awful smell, especially in a small space like a car interior, none of that that counts.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • not bad
