Works with an old soap pump

I was planning to buy this to try and install a hose on my mother's existing soap pump after the thread on the dispenser bottle snapped while refilling. This pump matched her other dish soap pump and meant I didn't have to squeeze into a closet to remove old appliances! I read the existing comments to get an idea of what to expect when installing and wired everything above the sink to make sure everything worked before running the hose and soap bottle under the sink. It was very easy to hook up to an existing pump, so I filled it with water to make sure it worked. And that's what happened, so I drained the water from the pipes, disconnected everything and put it back under the sink, and you know what? When I tried to refill the soap nothing happened. Everything was hooked up properly, but the soap wouldn't flow through the hoses no matter how hard I shook the handle. I figured the soap might need to be diluted, but I decided to try pumping the water through the pipes again. Ok, the water worked again, but this time I left the water in the hose and reconnected the other end to the soap bottle. Voila! After just a few pumps to clear the water, we had soap! In my experience, if you don't get anything with the hose in the soap dish, stick it in the water and try pumping again. If it works, leave the water in the tube and put the end back into the soap. Perhaps the pump will pump soap better if the hose is filled with something other than air. If pumping water doesn't work either, make sure the arrow on the backflow preventer is pointing up towards the pump and not down towards the soap. I hope everything keeps working, but I kept all the spares just in case. I like it when it keeps working, but the accompanying pump looked and felt cheap and felt too small for the opening. Also, it was too small to be used with the existing base of the original soap pump. It was easy to install as I didn't have to reach into the closet to remove the old plug or install the new one. Suction power is questionable given the issues with pouring soap. The materials provided were inexpensive. If I could buy hose and a backflow preventer I could do the same for about $5.
