Review on 🏎️ Enhanced Performance Rancho RS9000XL RS999255 Shock Absorber by Raymond Gray

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Drives great. Terrible paintwork and already rusty

I used these to replace my Ranch RS5000 which was the worst and stiffest damper I have ever owned. It made a big difference. By the way, I have a 2005 LJ Rubicon, which is relatively light. I started at level 5 and quickly worked my way up to the softest level (level 1). Now I can actually drive my jeep! On the other hand, the paintwork is terrible. Looks like Rancho would pay a 12 year old $2 an hour to quickly cover these things in rustoleum. The forums, including some ranch reps, recommend putting on a few coats of varnish, which I did. If you don't, especially if you live where the roads are salty, these things will rust in a year. I also saw a video on You Tube where a guy complained about adjustable valves rusting after 2-3 years. . He removed the adjustment knobs and put some marine grease on the grooves, so I did the same. I was shocked (pun intended) to find rust inside even though these shocks were never fitted. I recommend this in addition to painting. Finally, the boot or boot debate. Taking off the RS5000 with boots on, I noticed that the waves were clean. So I decided to come back with boots. If you don't like red, you can order other colors. So the ride will be greatly improved, but there are some quality issues that need to be fixed before installing.
