You can get stuck, tear or fall off when mountain biking. Once they fall off, the bleeder on the caliper can get stuck in the bleed hole, making the next brake service difficult. This is a very simple way to protect mountain bike caliper nipples. It's a bit of a hassle with just one, so I bought five at a time and have already used two of them.
