Review on Dorman 916 706 Variable Timing Solenoid by Steve Harris

Perfect replacement

I have a 2006 Honda Civic LX. The gas cut off at 3500 rpm, the car shook and the "Check Engine" light was on. He ran hard too. I read that this might be fixed. The product was perfect and came as described with a 3 pin VTEC oil sensor, gasket and a new 2 pin solenoid valve. Includes three required screws. I simply disconnected the two connectors, removed the three screws and the wire harness retaining clip, and then removed the old assembly with a screwdriver. Wipe up any spilled oil, then screw on the new assembly. Connect the solenoid valve, oil switch and wiring harness bracket. The car runs perfectly after that, but I had to use a computer code scanner to reset the code to turn off the check engine light. The light came on again until the oil was drained from the system, but hasn't since. Another tip: check the tightness of the screws after a week or so, as the gasket will shrink normally again after a few heat cycles. If you could get a torque wrench that would be even better, but there was no way I could fit it behind the engine in my car.

Pros
  • Complete assembly - includes all genuine parts and gaskets needed for a quick and thorough replacement
Cons
  • Nothing here
