Great value for money replacement filter UKF8001/Filter 4

We have been using the competing PUR Filter 4 in our Amana fridge for a while but have been looking for a better alternative due to the ridiculous price of it. this model. Well this Mist CWMF004 filter is what you need. Half the price of a PUR UKF8001 replacement filter and appears to be nearly identical in quality and construction. After installation we flushed 4 gallons through a new filter (same process as PUR) and the water tasted great. We often use fridge filtered water so we typically go 3 months without using PUR before noticing a change in taste. The packaging of this Mist CWMF004 filter says 4-6 months of use. If it lasts more than 3 months under heavy use, its weight will exceed its weight. For comparison I am attaching photos of a polyurethane filter and a MIST filter. There really is no difference I see or taste. Oh, except they included a handy/quirky "Install Month Sticker" page in the box. We only wrote about ours. **UPDATE November 7, 2018** I will be ordering more and just wanted to provide an update. The filter we ordered in January actually worked for 6 months without much change in flow. However, after about 5 months we noticed a change in taste. The second filter is already about 5 months old and the result is the same. Therefore, you can get similar results in an area with moderately hard water. Also just wanted to point out that all filters of this type should always be flushed properly on initial installation - just follow the instructions that come with it. I only mention this because I noticed from a recent review that it was unusual, but that hasn't been our experience in the last 10 years. Flushing these types of filters (made by anyone) will most likely require a lot of air flushing from the lines, as well as an initial carbon flush in the filter - which will initially be gray or black. But once that process is complete, you should be good for a few months. Just search for carbon filtration or activated carbon for more information on the basics of the process.
