As good as my AK2000C

Fantastic. For the past six months I've been using a Feiyutech AK2000C gimbal for my Canon DSLR and while I like it, I quickly realized that the situations in which I could use such a gimbal are more suited to smartphone video recording than one chunky camera, so I was in seventh heaven when I got the chance to test the G6. This thing is about as good as the AK2000C in terms of build quality, stability, and attention to detail. It comes in a fairly handy foam storage box (oddly, it doesn't close or has a handle so it can be carried in your pocket), and all the necessary components are securely in place. The accessory box explodes with a mass of shutter cables for Canon, Panasonic and Fujifilm cameras, although I pushed them aside as I was only interested in the smartphone attachment. The smartphone holder feels secure and sturdy and the phone slides in easily. and without problems, and the accessory itself simply screws into the quick-release stabilizer plate. Attaching is child's play. Balancing the axles with a connected smartphone was no easy task. The phone's lighter weight compared to a DSLR made it much harder to find the right settings to center it properly. While a heavy DSLR will tell you instantly if you lose your balance, a smartphone is too light to give you instant feedback, so give yourself a little extra time to get it right the first time. Well while this is a basic 5 star kit. I have a small complaint and it's about the instructions. When I first started using the AK2000C a few months ago, I was a complete novice when it came to stabilizers and the instructions were confusing. It took hours to figure out why I screwed up and ended up dampening my enjoyment of my first day with the device. Now I have a little more experience. I found the G6 Max much easier to set up, but the instructions were just as vague as the other model. It would be helpful, in addition to a simple quick start guide for people who know what they're doing, to have a link to a page on their website with detailed instructions for complete beginners, written in plain language to explain *why* each step important is. The instructions as they are now are not very intuitive, and they are not very helpful for people who are new to such things.

Pros
  • Detailed instructions good for beginners
Cons
  • Clarity

Works well. Simple to set up, no issues yet.
