I've always hated electronic spike finders. Maybe because I've always had cheap ones, but for home use, I could never justify spending over $20 on one. The batteries always run out (and I've never had 9V), it's hard to tell when it's reading the edge or middle of the rack, and you have to mark on the wall because you don't have 3 hands. all of this and I've used it a few times. That works great. I have a knockdown on my walls and can somehow "float" over it while still being able to tell when the magnet starts to "pull" (pulling over a hard hit can sometimes scratch it or chip off a bit). you can feel it As it approaches the propeller, it kind of pulls you in. I like the shape, as opposed to the much smaller ones. The long shape gives you a much better reach than the smaller, similar versions. BUT, my biggest complaint and the reason I give it 4 stars is that it requires a spirit level. It would be so easy to implement in design. Because finding the stud is great, but if your anchor point is 8 or 10 inches above or below that point you should look for a straight line or use a real bubble level. When this thing is tilted even a few degrees, it can blow your mind at close range. They should really add this feature to the base version and then come out with an improved version that emits a laser from above and below, allowing you to visualize the entire row of spikes from one attachment point. A simple laser can be powered by small watch batteries to keep the design. Just my 2 cents not worth 0 cents.
