After reading a number of reviews I was wary of making this purchase but thought they were cheap enough to take the risk on one limit minimum. In the end I am satisfied with the product without regrets. Haven't smelled any of the smells that others have reported, but I did get a residue on the water surface. Based on feedback from others, the first thing I did upon receipt was to hand wash the trays thoroughly. After the first wash I noticed a residue on the water surface. The dishes were then filled with water and left at room temperature for about 30 minutes. A white precipitate remained after draining the water. A paper towel was used to remove the residue. Since then I have not noticed any residue in the bowls or on the surface of the water and the bowls have been filled almost daily for the last month. The water used in the trays is taken from the Zero Water Pitcher.
