I'm a Fios customer and I'm sick of Verizon ripping off his router rental fee. The ROI for this is a meager 6 months, so it's easy to call financially. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel either, so I bought the same router I rented. Yes, it had Frontier firmware on it, whatever that means. When I logged into the router at 192.168.1.1, the settings page was branded as Frontier. I'm in New York so I have no idea who it is. The router itself is physically identical to the one I replaced. I unplugged the power supply, coax, verizon ethernet, my ethernet cables, changed routers, plugged everything back in and voila, it worked. TV, Internet, telephone as before. I was so concerned about the Frontier that I called Verizon in advance. They said just change it so it was an empty call. My returns kit is on the way from Verizon. I can't wait to deduct this fee from my account, which is way too damn high anyway. Reading the reviews I see that some people have had negative experiences. A technological thing like a router doesn't surprise me. I think I'm lucky and I hope you are too. World.
