Bad investment! in routers

I like the thin look and simplicity of the router's functions! I use a router to stream TV programs and movies. But I still get a lot of buffering and flushing signals. Not happy with the router!

I fixed my problem with high speed internet.

When used with FIOS the maximum internet speed was about 400 and I paid for 1000 Mbps. The signal to the FIOS device was normal but not to the PC device when using Wi-Fi and/or Direct High Speed Ethernet. Replacing this device with an identical original device will fix the problem without further tweaking. Worth the price and then some.

  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Incredible piggy bank

Works perfectly! Set up in 15 minutes

This is the same gateway model that has been used in my Fios account for years. But this one was brand new out of the box. I was able to disable the old one and re-enable it with Verizon in about 15 minutes (most of the time I was on the tech support phone). Fios Tech changed the password to my current password and I was good to go. ! By the way, I ordered this Tuesday the day before and received it Friday afternoon - fantastic. Now I just need to get my old one back so I don't get charged…

Easy install for computers and accessories

Installed the router this weekend. Installation was easy. Before I did anything, I called Verizon; removed the IP from the old router; then I switched the cable from the old router to the new one; then Verizon sent a signal and the job was done. Went to any Smart TV with no problems and updated Wi-Fi. Total time 20 minutes max. All programs on my Smart TVs (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) load much faster now. The only issue (which would have been a huge issue had I not already had a router) was the delay

Frontier yes, but worked fine

I'm a Fios customer and I'm sick of Verizon ripping off his router rental fee. The ROI for this is a meager 6 months, so it's easy to call financially. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel either, so I bought the same router I rented. Yes, it had Frontier firmware on it, whatever that means. When I logged into the router at 192.168.1.1, the settings page was branded as Frontier. I'm in New York so I have no idea who it is. The router itself is physically identical to the one I replaced. I…

My fears were unfounded

I had it for about 3 weeks. I was very concerned that I would lose TV functionality after upgrading my old, faulty, Verizon-supplied router. It worked great and I did NOT lose ANY features with my FIOS TV, landline and internet service. In addition, the installation was easy. Unplug the coax from my old FIOS router (Actiontec I think) and plug it in here. Verizon didn't need to be called. I turned it on, waited a few minutes, and the new SSID showed up on all my devices under Available Wi-Fi…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Can be damaged

I'm fairly tech savvy and understand networking equipment. If I knew how many headaches and hours wasted because of this router, I would avoid it. It comes with Frontier firmware (apparently Frontier is a west coast cable company that also offers Fios services), although it's owned by Verizon. Apparently it can be activated in some markets, but Verizon couldn't activate it in Washington DC. I spent hours on the phone with Verizon, moving the router to other coax outlets, booting up, rebooting…

Easy to install, up and running in 5-10 minutes

I bought this from Cyber_Geek, they sent me Priority Mail from New York. This router/gateway was used to replace a Verizon Actiontec router which was working fine but is only a 2.4GHz WiFi router. This used router had very minor abrasions and was missing the HAN cover on the back of the router. This does not affect the operation of the router, this is a blemish. It had a label that said "Tested and Working". After releasing the broadband/coax IP address in Actiontec (you need to be logged into…
