Review on Lippert 296649 Electric Brake Assembly by Joseph Hall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exact replacement OEM

I never knew how an electric trailer brake worked. When I saw that, I hesitated a bit and believed that these brakes even work. Trailer brakes are just brakes and not designed to stop anything, but the mechanisms and design seem rather suspect as to how they actually work. The old brakes and the drum I removed from the magnet actually ruined the drums, perhaps due to lack of maintenance, but when the magnet is designed to drag across the surface of the drum I almost thought it was poor engineering. Maybe the magnet should just get close to the drum when you apply the brake, but I often think that the magnet is actually making contact with the drum, causing friction and damage. I may have set my brake adjuster too high, but still I rode about 30,000 of these brakes and drums before changing them, so maybe they should have worn out sometime. But still, I'm glad I changed them and now I have fresh brakes, drums, plates, mechanisms, magnets and I'm ready to ride another 30,000. They really seem to be an exact replacement for part of the meme. But remember that there is a left side and a right side, so don't order two of the same, think you'll make the whole axle. The product description seems to indicate the need for a left and right side, but only says so

Cons
