Without the probe, this digital thermometer measures 6 x 1 1/2 x 3/4 inches. The folding probe is 4.6 inches long. The LCD is 1/2" x 1 1/2" and comes with a one page manual along with an extra CR2032 lithium battery - unit ships with one installed and one extra. The instructions are clearly written and the controls are intuitive enough that it's not difficult to use. Unfold the probe to activate it, fold it to deactivate it and use the two touch buttons to navigate. One button toggles between Celsius and Fahrenheit - press and hold until C (Celsius) or F (Fahrenheit) appears on the LCD screen. it is removed (press and hold for 2 seconds to activate) and the temperature is recorded quickly for 2 or 3 seconds. To activate the backlight button, press the button quickly and the light will turn on for 10 seconds. The temperature range for F is from 58 to 572 degrees and for C from 50 to 300 degrees below zero, so it can be used for a variety of purposes from grilling to making candy. Claimed accuracy is plus or minus 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit, 1 degree Celsius. There is a protective film on the front of the thermometer which should be removed before use. A strong magnet on the back of the device allows you to attach it to a fridge etc. to always have it handy. It's relatively water resistant and can be washed under the tap, but the instructions say it's not dishwasher safe. Also, do not leave the thermometer in the oven during cooking, use a probe to check the cooking and remove it immediately. The good thing is that it can be folded, so it takes up less storage space and poses less risk when you're blindly reaching into a kitchen drawer. So far very satisfied.
