I needed an ironing mat next to the sewing machine. I'm tired of constantly getting up and walking down the hall to iron and iron in the laundry room. I kept seeing videos of people using these mats with small irons, so I decided to give it a try. This rug size is perfect for my desk and I use it for ironing seams and masking while I sew. It prevents the heat from damaging the surface of my table. What it doesn't do is prevent moisture from the steam escaping onto my wooden table. I use either two towels folded in half or a silicone sheet from my dehydrator between the mat and the table. Towels are less slippery than glossy silicone sheets. A towel is not enough to protect yourself from getting wet. I wish these mats were waterproof underneath. There are other more expensive ironing mats out there but this one does the job I need. I am very happy with it. I strongly recommend you try it.
