My filter was stuck in a narrow spot where I couldn't get my hands on it. Other instruments would just slide and spin on the filter, so I ordered this one. There is also no space for a belt key. The only other option would have been to pierce the filter with a screwdriver and twist it, but there wasn't room for even that. This tool grips the filter and bites the metal as it rotates, allowing it to pull out even the most stuck filters. The filter may not be usable, but that is why you are using it with a used filter. I don't think it makes sense to adjust the filter, since the gripping movement can only work when it is tightened. A really great instrument and Lisle makes quality instruments so I chose it over other similar ones. Lisle is a good brand.
