I bought this Blu-ray drive based on reviews from other Mac users. I was skeptical that this would work because I've had no luck with devices that use a second USB cable for power. At first I thought the hard drive was working, but after about half an hour it died. If you're looking to buy this CD, I strongly recommend that you buy it from a seller that offers free shipping and free returns. . Chances are you'll get it back. Using the USB port for extra power is a bad idea in my opinion. I know it works for some people but it's too unreliable. First, I tried the drive with just a USB cable. It worked until I got errors while ripping some Blu-ray titles. Error messages were typical of drives that lacked performance. Then I tried to connect a second USB cable for power. I've tried every combination of cables, hubs, and USB ports. Nothing worked. I think there was a short in the drive because the drive was pretty dead after a while. I returned this drive and bought Samsung Electronics Optical Drives SE-506CB/RSBD instead. Although it costs almost twice as much, it only uses one USB cable. And it works great! I don't understand why this drive draws twice the power of a Samsung drive.
