These locks work as they should. Battery life is 6 months to a year and the code needs to be reset with new batteries. Resetting takes little time and simple instructions are on the battery cover. I suspect most people's performance issues are installation related. These locks are less forgiving of deadbolt and frame alignment than manual locks. A stronger motor/gearbox will not solve alignment problems. I've had this on both trailers and truck trailers and haven't had any issues with the caravan and alignment is difficult on a cargo trailer (has a standard van door) but not because of the latch itself. Installation is easy, but you must be careful not to pinch the battery cable when installing. I would give 5 stars if the battery cable was redesigned to prevent pinching during installation. Yes, I would keep a spare key somewhere in case the battery dies or someone knows how to lock it by pressing two buttons (damn kids), but I do the same thing for manual locks anyway, and I don't see that as a big issue. Don't buy them used either! I had no problems with the new one, but I bought a used one that broke.
