It is stronger than 6061 aluminum, but less versatile.Aluminum base - for beverage cans mostly (see - beer cans) - consist mostly of some aluminum, but contains small amounts of imported bauxite that is refined and smelted.I provide you with the valuable lesson on aluminum insight to let you know that the "heavy duty and durable" FRUITEAM 10FT Patio Offset Umbrellas Cantilever Umbrella (I have discovered - through a most unfortunate incident in my backyard) is mostly constructed of bauxite vs. the 2024 aluminum alloy or the more expensive and refined 6061.Before undertaking the storied debacle of purchasing, assembling, and being systematically and sadistically crestfallen by the "aluminum fatigue" failure of this 10 foot umbrella atrocity, I never before knew the importance of aluminum assembly, construction, and (lack of) durability.Following the collapse of the newly purchased umbrella - complete with the SNAPPING of the aluminum leg in winds not exceeding 3 mph (I checked weather reports to be entirely accurate) - I was astounded and had to better understand just WHAT the umbrella was made of.My studied and storied conclusion?The same "aluminum" that a beer can is made from! (see = that damned bauxite again!)I knew almost immediately after removal from the box that this "heavy duty" umbrella was anything but. The cloth covering the umbrella is a simple, cheap fabric, and it never seemed quite "sturdy" enough. I also struggled to open it - as the arms of the umbrella often crossed - and I had to manipulate the arms and turn the crank handle at the same time. I truly thought someone was recording me for "America's Funniest Home Videos" during this time, or I was in a "Three Stooges" short.Even the sticker on the crank ("OPEN"/"CLOSE") fell off!For good measure - and and a feeling of confidence via the Revain "recommendation" - I purchased the weighted bottom to "keep the umbrella secure" (what's another few hundred bucks anyway, I soundly rationalized?). as was "suggested" online; however, the weights (and I later added even MORE additional weights - just to made sure!) - did NOT stop the "heavy duty and durable" umbrella's leg from snapping (in 3 mph winds) and sending the top heavy umbrella crashing into my pool.To avoid any future "incident" (I told you I never did have confidence in the "durable" umbrella!), I only kept the umbrella open for short periods (mostly as a prop in the yard when friends visited), as I feared it may fall or crash upon someone. Yes - it just never seemed "right".It didn't matter.I put it up one afternoon and came back outside to discover the umbrella in my pool.Just to be more disastrous for me - and for good measure (please see attached photo), the snapped bauxite/aluminum leg and its three friends decided to gauge out and deface the bottom of my black bottomed pool, as it carved along the bottom with its rudderless bauxite/aluminum claws.My great "summer investment" of the utterly pathetic umbrella will now cause me additional cost to empty my pool and repair the bottom (during a drought). My only hope for cost (and with the water district people) is that I may be able to "rent" scuba gear and grab a bucket of Flex Seal for repair (as an option) - but i'm not sure aesthetically if it will work.This is the worst purchase I may have ever made - and that included tickets for the Frye Festival, my membership to Miss Cleo's Psychic Friends Network, home pay per viewing of "Space Jam: A New Legacy", and my failed vacation to Everest (the "Basecamp 4" barbarity).Sickening.Not surprisingly, I have written the 'FRUITTEAM' (sic), and have not heard a word back. My guess is that they are busy gathering more recyclable aluminum cans to melt down and make another few "quality" 10 foot umbrellas to sell to unlucky souls (like me).I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to "share" my experience with you - and want to thank the FAKE REVIEWS that aided in my attempts to try to find a worthy umbrella for my backyard (how else to explain the high marks on Revain for this AWFUL product?!).Upon further review of the reviews - they all seem very simple, cliche', and "GREAT" (How do you get 5 Stars for THIS umbrella?); moreover, the reviews lack lexical diversity, syntax, no geographic locations for reviews, and no review included SMS translation or GIFs with a "thumbs up".I can provide you with this simple review and tell you emphatically: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
