I use this to run Baofeng uv5r dual radios in RX/TX dual mode and it works fine. It can work in any mode, including "double" which cheap wired versions can't. You need a controller (this item) to have both RX/TX radios. The actual use and setup of this device is absolutely straightforward and the instructions that come with it are really helpful. That being said, your radio setup can be very demanding in terms of things like output power, antenna placement, etc. If you can't program the uv5r using just the front panel, you'll likely be disappointed. However, if you're comfortable with the keyboard and how to tweak things like offset and shift, vox, and transmit power, you'll probably be fine. Every problem I've had (strange noises, no RX, TX, whatever) and it's always been the radio settings.
