This mat is thick, hard/rubbery like plastic, no liquid gel, and then it has a pad underneath. The good thing is that you can slide the chair on or off. The edges taper downwards so there is no risk of tripping. There is a small semi-circular cut-out at the bottom of the cushion to allow it to slide perfectly on the round base of the chair as used in barber shops or barbershops. I use this tablet for work and stand at the computer desk all day. The curved, unpadded part is under my table so I don't step on it, so I don't care. I find it quite comfortable to work standing (sometimes sitting) all day. I haven't tried the gel type so I can't say if it would be better.
