This product is literally a simple circuit board connected with copper wire to mini light bulbs powered by 3 AAA batteries held by 2 removable plates and 50 clips. Using rechargeable Eneloop AA batteries (BK-3MCCA), they ran for about 15 hours (3pm) before the lights went out. I was wanting to try alkaline batteries until I noticed a burned section of wire between a battery's plate and the circuit board. I missed that when I unpacked the product. I'm not sure if it's safe to keep using it, but in theory the power consumption should be low enough that there's no problem. However, if you read reviews that mention smoking, who knows what's wrong with the PCB design. However, I'm not sure how it passed quality control. The battery compartment design is also terrible as the circuit board is completely exposed after removing the cover and the cover is not very secure. If you want to buy battery powered security lights, this is not the best choice. Be sure to check the box design before purchasing. After a few months of use, the "burned" partition didn't become a problem (probably due to low power consumption). I really don't know how others could get smoke from theirs unless they were so wet that water droplets formed in their battery compartment and destroyed the circuit board. Otherwise there were serious defects. However, the lack of use of watts or anything like that makes it difficult to determine the cause and how long different batteries should last. If I used online resources correctly, this thing draws less than 1W and should last around 30 hours when using 4 Duracell AA batteries based on Eneloop batteries with a lifespan of around 15 hours. indoors and when the batteries are almost fully charged. I hope this isn't a spoiler for viewers, but gives you other ideas on how to use these lights.
