Although I own many drill sets, I researched them carefully before purchasing this one. I bought Longmate bits on purpose because they are fully ground from M2 high speed steel. Not all high speed steels are M2 (6% tungsten, 5% molybdenum, 4% chromium and 2% vanadium) and bits may be forged or ground on the edges rather than being fully ground. Of course, once the titanium nitride coating on a drill wears away, what remains is the metal that the drills are actually made of. From a practical point of view, the M2 is just a notch better than the M35, which adds 5% cobalt. Upon receipt I noticed that the Longmate bits fit and finish quite well and they feel exceptionally sharp. I haven't used them on any type of metal, but I was pleased that they drilled through 3/4" thick plywood and 3/4" solid oak much faster than any other drill bit I've tested. Of course, all drills will drill through wood, albeit blunt ones. Drills can burn hard wood. However, if you have a lot of holes to drill, it makes sense to go 3/4" (literally) in 2 seconds instead of 4 or 5.
