I have a new MacBook Pro and I got it to read my digital camera's SD card. I received it tonight, connected it and inserted the card. At first everything was fine, pictures and videos appeared and I started importing and editing them. I started to feel warmth near my leg (laptop on my lap and adapter plugged in on the left and lying next to me). I reached out and found (burned my finger) that the adapter got so hot it started melting my SD card. It costs $80. I am angry. This thing sucks because it gets so hot it can damage anything you plug into it. Other reviewers have posted the same questions and existing reviews. I'll post that right back. I'm sure they won't offer to replace the camera's memory card, so out of the madness now.
